Training Center

In China, English is a second language. In the past ten years, Chinese parents have paid more and more attention to improving their kids' English. Therefore, ESL training centers have sprung up in major provinces across China, and the demand for foreign language teachers has also increased. Teaching at a training center is a great way to start your career in China.

At the same time, training centers recruit throughout the year. Compared with other positions, training centers provide relatively high salaries. Except for adult training centers, the majority of students in the training centers are in the age range of 3-12 years old.

In terms of teaching style, the teachers of the training center adopt interactive teaching methods and they encourage students to speak as much as possible. They will host group activities, play games, and tell stories, etc.

    Work Time

You need to work on the weekend and or do afternoon/evening shifts. This is because these are privately owned institutions, and students need to attend schools during weekdays. Teachers usually need to work from 2 pm to 8/9 pm during weekdays, and 8/9 am to 5/6 pm on weekends.

    Class Size

Training centers usually have small classes, with about 5-12 students. It's easier for teachers to manage the class and students could be focused more in a small class.

Students in the lower age group can't understand English that well. Therefore, in most centers, there is a teaching assistant for each foreign teaching class. The assistant will help to translate in the class, and to manage discipline in the class. At the same time, the teaching assistant can also help with tutoring and supervision of homework and communication with parents.

Because the training centers are for-profit institutions, they attach great importance to the quality of their teaching. Most training centers have their own unique courses and training materials. Therefore, foreign teachers don't need to prepare that much. However, because they want higher quality classes, they will train their teachers on a regular basis. This is a good opportunity for new teachers to learn and adapt to Chinese teaching. In addition, most training institutions are equipped with excellent teaching environments and superior teaching equipment, such as smartboards, flashcards, audio, video materials, etc., which provide students with unprecedented teaching methods and open teaching formats.
