In China, young people are always under a great deal of pressure, and the workplace is also extremely competitive. Due to this, English is one of the ways for them to improve their lives by opening new opportunities, thus giving them a chance to increase their salary. If you don't like children, but want to teach English in China, teaching adults would be a great choice for you. Adults have strong self-control, so they’ll quietly observe the class (no random noise).Especially since they pay higher tuition fees usually from their own wallet
(or as a business expense), they’ll be focused on learning in class.
Teaching at an Adult training Center
Adult English class usually takes place in training centers all day Saturday and Sunday, and also after 3:00pm on weekdays. Generally, each training center has their own teaching system. The course is divided into two parts: one for beginners and the other for more advanced students. Expat English teachers also have an opportunity to set up custom courses for students. For example, if you’re into movies, you could set up a course on movies for students to discuss in class.
Class teacher to student ratios are usually one to one, one to four, and one to ten. The small class size allows the teacher to grasp the student's learning progress, and also allows the student to focus more on learning English.
Benefits for teaching adults in China
1: Adults are more self-disciplined, unlike children who are difficult to control in the class.
2:Students pay to learn, and they choose to learn, so they will be more motivated. They hope they can have more opportunities for a better career by learning English. Therefore, they are more willing to spend time on their studies.
3: Your students come from different places and different industries, so to some extent, they are a good resource for you. You can also learn more about Chinese culture and the state of China's various industries by communicating with them. At the same time, it is easy to be friend them as most of them are most likely within your age range.
4: Communication between adults is smoother, and the content of teaching is more mature. Teaching content usually involves business English with topics covering a wide range of professional situations. Even for beginners, you could set up different course materials and discussion topics based on interests, hobbies, different backgrounds and motivations.
5: We have job postings in over 40 different cities. If you want to experience even more of China by moving to different cities, it’s easy to switch to another training center focusing on adults there.
